Call for Applications: SEMA Stories from Our Cities Film Workshop in Kwale

Greetings Filmmakers of Kwale!

Are you passionate about storytelling through film? Do you want to amplify the voices and narratives of your community? If so, then we invite you to apply for the SEMA Stories from Our Cities Film Workshop in Kwale!

SEMA, which means “speak out” in Swahili, is an initiative dedicated to empowering local storytellers to share their perspectives through the powerful medium of film. Our goal is to provide a platform for diverse voices from across Kwale to be heard, celebrated, and shared with the world.

The workshop will offer participants a unique opportunity to:

  • Learn from experienced filmmakers: Gain insights, techniques, and practical skills from seasoned professionals in the field of filmmaking.
  • Develop your storytelling abilities: Hone your ability to craft compelling narratives that reflect the richness and diversity of Kwale’s communities.
  • Hands-on training: Get practical experience in all aspects of filmmaking, from scriptwriting and directing to cinematography and editing.
  • Collaborate with fellow filmmakers: Connect with like-minded individuals, share ideas, and collaborate on projects that reflect the unique stories of Kwale.
  • Showcase your work: Have the chance to showcase your films to a wider audience through local screenings and online platforms.

Requirements for participation:

Passion for storytelling: We are looking for individuals who are passionate about sharing the stories of their communities.

Basic knowledge of filmmaking: While prior experience in filmmaking is not required, a basic understanding of the filmmaking process would be beneficial.

Commitment to the workshop: Participants must be able to commit to the full duration of the workshop.
